Omnison is seeking a dynamic and committed individual to fill the position of Lighting Technician

Job Description

Reporting to the Technical Director, and under the supervision of the Chief Lighting Designer, this position will be required to work in a variety of venues.

General Responsibilities

• Ensure that lighting equipment is properly set up and complies with the show concept;
• Participate in the set up and tear down of lighting equipment and technical equipment related to the show;
• Act as a tracking operator during performances and rehearsals and, if necessary, as a lighting console operator;
• Operate, as needed, the lighting console for each performance and practice;
• Replace other technicians in various capacities during performances as needed;
• Participate in the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and modification of lighting equipment;
• Supervise the training of supernumerary tracking operators;
• Supervise training of local operators and technicians as needed;
• Comply with lighting safety standards and regulations and apply safe work practices.

Qualifications required

• Schooling: College degree (or equivalent) in entertainment production, theatre production, sound technology or electronics (or equivalent work experience);
• Minimum of three years experience as a lighting technician;
• Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show, an asset;
• Understanding of electricity and electrical safety in the entertainment industry;
• Having a forklift and/or aerial work platform license and training in working at heights an asset;
• Ability to work at heights (climbing skills are essential).
